Hutchison Junior Basketball Star Featured in Daily Memphian

The road to recovering from a horrific injury has been a long one for Tyler Jones ’25, but 16 months later, she is helping lead the Hutchison Sting to victories on the basketball court.
After sustaining a terrible injury on the basketball court in July 2022, junior Tyler Jones ’25 didn’t quit. She wasn’t cleared to play again until October 2023 and used her time on the sidelines to learn more about the sport she loves from a different point of view.

As sports reporter John Varlas said in an article about Jones in the Daily Memphian: “She kept God first as she worked. She watched. She learned. She rebuilt her confidence one exercise, one dribble at a time.” And now she’s back helping to lead the Hutchison Sting basketball team to victories.

“Leadership is tremendous,” said Hutchison head basketball coach Thomas Jones in the article. “I’m really proud of her. Just a tremendous kid and a tremendous talent ... her ceiling is even higher.”

Back on the court, she’s a key part of a team that is one of the most successful in its division this season and is hoping to take its talents to the state tournament. Read the full Daily Memphian article for the powerful story of how Tyler overcame her injury to come back stronger.
