The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 is a fast-paced comedy by John Bishop. The play is based on several 1940s mystery movies. The plot revolves around the creative team responsible for a recent Broadwayflop in which three chorus girls were murdered by the mysterious "Stage Door Slasher". They assemble for a backer's audition of their new show at the Westchester estate of a wealthy "angel." The house is replete with sliding panels, secret passageways and a German maid who figures diabolically in the comic mayhem that follows when the infamous "slasher" makes his reappearance and strikes again. After a series of dizzy conversations, multiple trips through secret doorways leading to a labyrinth of hidden passageways, a power outage in the mansion, multiple crimes, and criminals are revealed. Eventually after much murderous mayhem the Stage Door Slasher is revealed and captured.

We have a cast! You were all amazing and it was very time consuming coming up with just the right composition of players to tell our story.
One….Katy Gilmore will play a surprise character named Katarina at the very end of the play. She will also play the FIRST Helsa (wink, wink, nudge, nudge….don’t tell anyone what this means!)
Two….there are several radio broadcasts and some background 1940’s music that will be performed by a trio of “Dead Chorus Girls” to be chosen by the Theater and Music Departments and announced on the day of the first read-through.
If you auditioned and did not get cast….you have first dibs at backstage running crew! This will be an important (and fun) job as we will have several weapons, hidden bookcases and walls and closet doors etc. to operate. Email me asap if you want to do this. You would need to commit to all rehearsals and performances from January 12 to February 10.
Another option for involvement, with a lesser time commitment, is to be costumed box office managers and ushers selling candy, chocolates, and other 1940’s items from trays throughout the Lobby and Theater at Intermission. We would only need you the week of Dress Rehearsals and Performances, February 4-10. Again, let me know asap or I will give these parts to others!
