Hutchison Girls Excel in Competitive Math Exam

Ten Hutchison girls excel in a national math exam & one senior competed in an elite national math invitational!
Several Hutchison girls excelled in the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) 10/12 examination sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America. This test assesses proficiency in mathematical concepts and problem solving and each student takes the three-hour examination twice. Last year more than 150,000 students and 3,500 schools competed nationwide at grades 10 and 12.

Hutchison’s AMC 12 winners included Laura Carrier ’17 (2nd place), Emily Cohen ’17 (2nd place), Stewart Nichols ’17 (3rd place), Francie Sentilles ’17 (3rd place), and Sophie Merchant ’17 (1st place). Our AMC 10 winners included Sally Crow ’19 (2nd place), Anne Grinder ’19 (3rd place), Michelle Lee ’19 (2nd place), Lilly West ’19 (3rd place), and Charlotte Merchant ’19 (1st place). Hutchison sophomore Charlotte Merchant ’19 (1st place) placed first both times in the 10th grade math examination.

Senior Sophie Merchant ’17 (1st place) was invited to compete in the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME), an elite national invitation-only mathematical competition. Only those students who rank in the top 5% of AMC 12 are invited to compete in the AIME examination.

Way to go, girls!
