Robotics Team Excels in First Competition

The Hutchison RoboBees finished 14 out of 23 teams at St. George's VEX Robotics Competition under the guidance of middle school science teacher Sherri Sobczak.
The team includes 8th graders Leah Grace Wolf, Lasha Pope, and Erin Leal. The girls built their own robot and programmed it with parts from VEX Robotics, a design system that offers students an exciting platform for learning about areas rich in career opportunities spanning science, technology, engineering, and math.

Of the 23 teams that competed, the RoboBees were the only all-girl team and one of only four teams made up of all middle school students. They were also chosen for the Energy Award, which is given to teams that maintain a high level of excitement and energy throughout the event, demonstrate passion for competition and robotics that enriches the event experience for others, and have an overall sense of teamwork, interview quality, and team professionalism.
Way to go, girls!
