Alumna Making Strides

Mary Carson Pitts ’13 has made leaps and bounds on and off the field at Tulane. She recently graduated from the university with a degree in Business Finance, all while balancing her academics with an impressive athletic record.
Pitts still holds the school record and the Tennessee state record in the pole vault with a leap of 12' 7" that she cleared in March 2013. She was also named Hutchison Track MVP during her senior campaign that led her team to a regional title in 2013, but that never stopped her from looking for ways to improve once she reached her collegiate athletic career. She set the tone for her drive in her senior quote in 2013 when she said: “Everyday there are new challenges and fears to be conquered through hard work...when I leave Hutchison, I will always carry with me the lessons I have learned and the fears I have overcome and follow my passion into college.”

Based on her academic and track record, it’s easy to see how she took this mindset to Tulane and how she will carry it with her for years to come. Pitts, Academic All-American pole vaulter, showed a consistent four-year record of excellence and improvement. Each year Pitts was on the team, she lettered, improved her personal record, and qualified for the East Regional NCAA Championships.

We wish Mary Carson the best and know she will begin to make strides in the business world as she begins her career in New York City with a mortgage banking firm.
