Senior Named Finalist for Prestigious Scholars Program
Hutchison is proud to announce that senior Stewart Nichols has been named a University of Virginia Jefferson Scholars finalist.
The Jefferson Scholars program is recognized as one of the two leading scholarship programs in the country. Its purpose is to attract the most promising leaders, scholars, and citizens in the world to the University of Virginia. Nominations for the scholarship come from all corners of the country and around the world, and only a select few become finalists after rigorous regional competitions and interviews. The total value of the scholarship exceeds $240,000 for non-Virginia students.
Stewart stood out among a remarkable group of nominees because she has distinguished herself as both a leader and scholar. She is a national merit finalist and has served as both junior and senior class president. Stewart is also a Hutchison science research fellow, a program that partnered her with Dr. James Eason of Methodist University Hospital's Transplant Institute to study the role of immunosuppression in liver transplants. As part of her Hutchison Leads fellowship, she researched the obstacles between Latino Memphians and adequate public and private healthcare. Stewart's passion for this topic was born through her participation in Hutchison's award-winning world languages program that helps girls achieve oral and written fluency while gaining an interest in different cultures.
