Hutchison Upper School Girls & Faculty Explore Peru

Our girls explored the physics of the construction of Machu Picchu as well as the farming and astronomy techniques of the ancient culture. They also had the opportunity to learn about the micro-climates of the area as well as the affects of urbanization and physiology of the human body in the high altitudes of Peruvian mountains. They visited traditional cultural marketplaces and historical sites while learning about the traditional food and clothing of Quechua people and practicing their skills in bartering with vendors.

While there, the girls also engaged in service learning projects including the clean stove project and learned about the impact of non-governmental organizations in Peru while visiting children in a local orphanage.
