Cora Winnig ’31 won first place in a Tome Student Literacy Society poetry competition.
For her poem “Griselda,” Cora earned first place in the middle school poetry contest at TomeCon, a convention in Georgia that hosts over 2,000 students. She submitted her poem as part of our middle school’s Tome Student Literacy Society, which allows our girls to take a deeper dive into various types of books and offers opportunities to show off their literacy skills by competing in contests. Sixth grade English teacher Sydney Freibaum and middle and upper school librarian Marie Ryall sponsor the student organization at Hutchison.
“It is not surprising to me that Cora won first place!” Freibaum said. “She is an avid reader, a lover of writing, and someone who approaches everything she does with diligence and empathy. We are so proud of her!”
Tome Society provides book lists, book club activities, and curriculum materials for educators. By participating in the group, our girls grow in their self-esteem, leadership skills, character, and ethics, and they nurture critical thinking, creativity, and imagination in the digital age.
Carly Gubin ’12 played tennis at Hutchison and learned the importance of being part of a team. As a dentist, she relies on a team when caring for patients.
When our girls come together to serve, amazing things happen. During their service retreat, our 10th graders built strong bonds while making a positive impact across Memphis.
For her myExperience capstone project, Maya Pentecost ’26 adapted Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death” into a one-act dark comedy. She wrote the script, designed the production, and collaborated with a cast and crew of Hutchison students and faculty in our arts program and the Institute for Responsible Citizenship to bring it to life.
