Hutchison Senior Wins City of Germantown Youth Excellence Scholarship

Anna Catherine Brickey ’25 received the Germantown Education Commission Youth Excellence Scholarship.
The City of Germantown celebrated Anna Catherine’s academic achievements, service, and leadership. Anna Catherine received Germantown’s first Youth Excellence Award of the 2024-2025 school year and became eligible to compete for a scholarship. In April, she was named the recipient of this year’s scholarship.

“Anna Catherine has excelled academically and in leadership, service, and athletics, all while giving back to her community through volunteer work,” the City of Germantown said in a Facebook post. “A natural leader and compassionate role model, she has also explored her interests in science, psychology, and art through independent research projects.”

A high-achieving student, she was an AP Scholar and a member of the 30+ Club. She served as a class officer for three years and Chapel Council vice president during her senior year. She was a captain of the varsity volleyball team and a member of the myExperience program’s art and design cohort.

Anna Catherine attended Hutchison since she was in our early childhood program, and she credits our school acrostic with shaping her character and serving as a set of guiding principles in her life. “From the moment I got here in junior kindergarten, we learned the acrostic, and it’s been instilled in me ever since,” she said. “I have carried those virtues through my entire experience here and will continue to do so in the future.”

Anna Catherine was the 2024-2025 recipient of the Dr. Annette C. Smith Community Award, which recognizes a student who is passionate about her community and engages actively in the world around her. She is actively involved in Sisters of Charity and is part of the Le Bonheur Club Teens, which helps high school students learn about philanthropy. She serves as a volunteer liaison and was previously a school liaison.

During the summer of 2024, she shadowed at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women, visiting patient care areas and observing interactions between medical personnel and patients. Inspired by our school acrostic’s character values and a love of science that she built at Hutchison, Anna Catherine will attend the University of Georgia in the fall. She plans to study biology on a pre-medical track.
