Watching Their Daughters Thrive Inspired Two Moms to Join the Hive

Long-time teachers Meredith Moore and Marilyn Carter first joined the Hutchison community as moms. This year, they both begin a new chapter at the Hive as lower school teachers.
They saw their daughters succeed at Hutchison. Now, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Carter are stepping into the classroom to help the next generation of girls do the same. Moore is mom to Bailey ’25, who attends the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

“Hutchison provided an academically challenging and also a welcoming and supportive environment that allowed Bailey to thrive at each stage of her education,” she said. “There were teachers that truly knew her and met her where she was. It meant so much to our family to see her thrive and now see her as such an independent and confident young woman.”

Carter, mom to Lainey ’28 and Lily ’32, wanted to make Hutchison part of her story, too. Her daughter Lainey came in upper school, and her other daughter Lily started at Hutchison this year in seventh grade, earlier than initially planned because she saw firsthand what Hutchison does for its students.

“Lainey advocates for herself and doesn’t give up in adverse situations. She made new friends because she came here not knowing many people. She has grown academically. The relationships she’s developed with the teachers have been fabulous,” she said. “More than anything, I hope Lily will achieve the same thing.”

One of Carter’s favorite things about Hutchison so far is that everyone is willing to help with any question or issue. “Here, you can go to anyone, and they will help you. They will be there for you,” she said.

Now at Hutchison in a professional capacity, Moore feels lucky that she has the parent perspective. “I know what the end goal is… creating confident, capable, intelligent young women. I’m looking forward to paying forward what was given to us with the Hutchison experience, paying forward all of the time and energy that was poured into my daughter,” she said.

“Hutchison is a blessing to me as a teacher and an educator. Coming to Hutchison is a blessing to our family.” -Marilyn Carter
