Special Awards
Sara & Leonard Frey Award
The Sara and Leonard Frey Award is presented to the student who best exemplifies the love of learning, creative and critical thinking, and the intellectual quest so well represented by Mr. and Mrs. Frey. The recipient, visibly committed to the life of the mind and the active pursuit of knowledge and understanding, is selected by the Upper School faculty.

Ruth & Bliss Bowlin Creativity Award
The Ruth and Bliss Bowlin Creativity Award is given to a senior who has exhibited outstanding creativity in one or more artistic endeavors: writing, poetry, instrumental or vocal music, musical composition, dance, drama, film/media, and studio art.

Kirby and Glenn Floyd Excellence in Service Scholarship Award
This award is given annually to a Hutchison girl whose service efforts create lasting, positive changes in the community. Considerations for the selection of a winning project include the girl’s commitment to sustainability, overall impact, innovation, and servant leadership.

Velma Thorn Cunningham Service Award
This award is given in memory and honor of the 1973 Hutchison graduate who dedicated her life to serving others. It is given to a senior who has demonstrated an outstanding and consistent commitment to volunteer activities.

Dot Jones Hammons Award for Responsible Citizenship
This award is given to a sophomore participant in the Institute for Responsible Citizenship who exemplifies the qualities of a servant leader.

Angela Perkins Goodwill Award
This award honors a member of the Twelve-Year Girls who is genuine, amiable, caring, sympathetic, energetic, pleasant, good-natured, warm, and understanding. The recipient is elected by members of the Twelve-Year Girls.

Betsy Rhodes Friendship Award
This award is presented to a sophomore who best demonstrates genuine friendship toward everyone in the school community. The recipient is chosen by the sophomore class in a secret ballot.

Mary Elisabeth Tipton Athletic Leader of Character Award
This award recognizes a senior who is warm, compassionate, and a respectful leader. She has succeeded in spite of adversarial conditions both on the athletic field and off. She serves as a source of inspiration to others, exemplifying the Hutchison core values through athletics.

Molly Sheahan Spear Award
This award is given to a student in her first or second year at Hutchison who displays outstanding leadership, enthusiasm, and loyalty to the School. The recipient is chosen by faculty and student leaders.

Hadley and Mary Helen Green Honor Council Award
This award, chosen by the Honor Council, is given to a senior who embodies the spirit of the Hutchison Honor Code, works to educate others about honor, and furthers the code’s meaning for our community.

Hutchison Parents Association Loyalty Award
This award is presented by the Hutchison Parents Association to a rising Hutchison senior who is eligible for the Twelve-Year Girls. She exemplifies loyalty to her peers, her parents, her teachers, her school, and herself.

Laura Hampton Rogers Community Commitment Award
This award is given to a junior or senior who has demonstrated the most interest in and commitment to the Memphis community. A contribution in her name will be made to a community agency as designated by the award recipient with school approval.

Honorary Societies  
Cum Laude Society
Since 1958, Hutchison has inducted students who have demonstrated the highest academic achievement and integrity throughout their high school career into its Chapter of the Cum Laude Society. The Cum Laude Society is dedicated to honoring scholastic achievement in secondary schools.  The constitution of the Cum Laude Society states that no more than 20% of a graduating class may be inducted. No more than 10% of that class may be inducted during the junior year.

Sara Frey History Society
Sara Frey History Society Membership is granted to a junior or senior student who has a minimum overall cumulative weighted average of 3.00, with a cumulative average of 90 in her history and social studies courses. Junior inductees must be enrolled in an AP-level history or social studies course, and senior inductees must be enrolled in an AP-level course or have five full-year courses in history or social studies by graduation.

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica 
A junior or senior may be inducted into the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica if she has completed at least three semesters of Spanish in the Upper School. A student currently enrolled in an AP course must have a cumulative Spanish average of 85 or above, and those currently enrolled in Honors or Advanced Honors classes must have a cumulative Spanish average of 90 or above.

National Chinese Honor Society
The Hutchison Chinese Honor Society was founded in 2011 to recognize those students who have a profound interest in the Chinese language and culture. A junior or senior may be inducted into the society if she has completed at least three semesters of Chinese Mandarin in the Upper School and is currently enrolled in Honors or Advanced Honors Chinese classes.
