Upper School Art Students Attend Miami Art Week with SCAD
Ten Hutchison girls enjoyed the opportunity to explore several art sites in Miami with Savannah College of Art and Design.
On their trip to Miami, upper school art students were inspired and awed after seeing art in ways they’ve never experienced before. From Art Basel, a premier international art fair, to the Design Miami Fair to the Untitled Art Fair, our girls saw firsthand what a successful art career can look like and gained a wealth of inspiration.
“I loved getting lost in the Untitled Art Fair, looking at all of the art that was displayed, and taking as many pictures as I could wherever we went,” Maddie Cochran ’28 said. “I am ready to create even more art after seeing everything here.”
Farrah Brown ’26 said the trip was eye-opening and life-changing. “Many of the displays were interactive, with exhibits featuring lightbulbs that recorded everyone’s heartbeats, a three-horse carousel at Design Miami, and a room full of bubbles, where we put on disposable coveralls in order to walk through. It made me realize that art can be anything as long as effort, care, and creativity are put into it.”
In addition to exploring these fairs, our girls attended an informative session with SCAD art history professor Ali Geremia and gallery owner Susan Laney, had a picnic lunch at the Botanical Garden, attended a Miami Heat game, and explored the Perez Art Museum.
Through experiences like this, our girls learn more about the world and get a taste of the futures they want to pursue. At Hutchison, they discover how their individual talents and contributions can lead to rewarding careers as well as lives of purpose.
