Leadership here extends beyond being a class officer or club president. If you visit a lower school class, you will promptly be greeted by a poised young lady who will introduce herself, make eye contact, shake your hand and proceed to explain the lesson of the day. Middle School is a chance to discover her own voice – engaging in a thought-provoking conversation in the Socratic-style global studies class, delivering an eighth grade speech, or lending moral support to student dancers in Company D, a Memphis-based dance company for young adults with Down Syndrome.
All of these experiences build confidence, character, and awareness of what it means to be a global citizen. By the time they reach Upper School, girls are ready to take part in Hutchison’s renowned leadership development program, a comprehensive approach encompassing leadership, service learning, entrepreneurship and philanthropic literacy.
