  • Empowering Girls to Change Their World

Leadership here extends beyond being a class officer or club president. If you visit a lower school class, you will promptly be greeted by a poised young lady who will introduce herself, make eye contact, shake your hand and proceed to explain the lesson of the day. Middle School is a chance to discover her own voice – engaging in a thought-provoking conversation in the Socratic-style global studies class, delivering an eighth grade speech, or lending moral support to student dancers in Company D, a Memphis-based dance company for young adults with Down Syndrome.

All of these experiences build confidence, character, and awareness of what it means to be a global citizen. By the time they reach Upper School, girls are ready to take part in Hutchison’s renowned leadership development program, a comprehensive approach encompassing leadership, service learning, entrepreneurship and philanthropic literacy.

  • Connecting the Classroom to the World

Each year, upper school girls leave the classroom for hands-on opportunities to make a difference in the Greater Memphis community. But the Wilson Society is much more than community service. Girls partner with local organizations to create sustainable solutions they can implement. Girls learn to appreciate that some of society’s most serious issues require multi-faceted solutions. The Rogers Scholars curriculum includes topical workshops and guest speakers, many of them community leaders who are on the front lines, to help the girls explore social challenges in the region. Combining hands on service with the operational aspects of addressing community issues, gives girls a comprehensive view of what effective global citizenship entails.
  • Learn Here. Lead Anywhere

Global Ambassadors at Hutchison tackle social ills on a macro level. In addition to lively class discussions and advocacy campaigns, girls Skype with peers around the globe. Girls who participate in the annual global trip get a once in a lifetime immersion in service learning on a global scale, including a visit to a girls’ school in Peru.
  • Inspiring Young Philanthropists

When they serve on Hutchison’s Philanthropic Literacy Board girls have a chance to manage an endowment fund and experience the sobering responsibility of having to weigh the merits of different local agencies applying for grants.
