Middle School Participates in Co-Edge Program Service-Learning Project with MUS

The 7th graders recently participated in a Service-Learning project with MUS as a part of the Co-Edge Program.
Co-Edge provides the girls with opportunities to have interactions with boys from MUS through activities such as service-learning projects and leadership development workshops throughout the year.

At the beginning of the day, the boys and girls attended a group session where they learned about the organizations they would later visit and the challenges our city faces like housing and education.

The students were split into seven groups that were each assigned a different site.  The sites visited included the Neighborhood Christian Center, Clean Memphis, Dorothy Day House, Winridge Elementary, Thistle & Bee, Carpenter Art Garden, and Perea Preschool.

At the end of the day, the groups came together for a reflection on their experience. A Hutchison girl participating at the Dorothy Day House noted, "I learned the stories of families who are experiencing homelessness and are staying at the Dorothy Day House. I now know that bad things can happen to really good people, and it's up to us to help others when they are in need." Through service-learning projects like this, the girls can explore the joy of giving back with their friends at MUS. #HutchisonServes
