Strengthening Skills Through Interactive Learning

When our kindergarten girls learn about birds, they approach it from several different viewpoints. This annual study strengthens their creativity, writing, and research skills while allowing the girls to help birds on the Hutchison campus and beyond. As part of the study, they design and build feeders, birdhouses, nesting centers, and birdbaths in the classroom and in the Innovation Lab while learning about the birds their inventions will benefit. The girls donate their creations to the Hutchison farm and Memphis Tilth, a local organization dedicated to creating a sustainable and equitable local food system. In addition to learning about birds, they are proud to see that their creations and innovations can make a difference!
