Community Service
To ensure students develop a strong sense of altruism and social responsibility, Hutchison places a priority on service to others, combining civic responsibility with philanthropy.

Service to Others
Beginning as early as pre-kindergarten, girls participate in a wide range of community service projects designed to foster the realization in each student that she can influence positive change in her community and in the world. As girls mature, they take the initiative in creating and planning outreach initiatives on small and large scales from home maintenance workdays in underprivileged neighborhoods to tutoring children in the community to joining Memphis University School students in Service over Self projects.

Philanthropy
The Community Service Endowment Fund complements Hutchison’s mission to provide volunteer opportunities so students develop a lifelong habit of giving time, talent, and money, back to society. The goals of the Community Service Endowment Fund are to establish a fund that generates interest income to be distributed to Memphis-area nonprofits. As upper school girls learn about the financial aspects of grant-making, they experience first-hand the benefits of donating time and resources. Girls administering the grants work with The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis to make wise investments, solicit requests for proposals, evaluate applicants, and manage the grants once they are awarded.
