Throughout the school year, students in Pre-Kindergarten (PK), Junior Kindergarten (JK), and Senior Kindergarten (SK) have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of fun activities:

Four gallery openings are held each year by the Early Childhood program. Throughout the year, each EC girl has the opportunity to have her artwork displayed in the entrance of the Abston Early Childhood Center. Grand openings are planned for parents to come view the new “collection.”

Girls in PK, JK, and SK raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital in an annual Trike-a-Thon, riding tricycles around a designated path.

SK students act as flower girls for girls in grade 12. Each is paired with a specific graduating senior for events such as Mayday and graduation ceremonies.

All Early Childhood students participate in our Christmas programs for family and friends. The girls also perform for local area retirement homes, singing and giving gift bags to visiting retirement home residents.

Off-campus theatre performances are attended by girls in JK and SK.

JK girls enjoy having Donuts with Dad while PK girls have their fathers visit for Breakfast with Books.

Moms get the chance to visit during JK’s Muffins with Mom, and SK’s annual Mother-Daughter Picnic by the lake.

SK Girls enjoy a Thanksgiving Feast dressed as Native Americans or Pilgrims, eating foods like those served at first Thanksgiving.

The Annual Family Picnic and Art Show is widely attended by all Early Childhood families in May.

Over the course of the school year, the students also enjoy multiple field trips, which are both fun and educational:
  • SK goes to Lichterman Nature Center and the Botanic Gardens.
  • JK visits the Memphis Zoo, Litcherman Nature Center, and the Children's Museum.
  • Pre-K has an annual visit from WOW (Memphis Zoo Wildlife on Wheels).
  • Pre-K has an annual Napping House Party, named for Audrey Wood’s charming children’s book.
  • Pre-K has annual Rainforest Run and picnic for girls and their families all participate

SPARK (Students Participating in Arts, Recreation and Knowledge) is Hutchison's after school and summer enrichment program. Every day after school, Hutchison's campus is alive with activities for children of all ages. The school day does not end with the last bell. Imaginations continue to be “sparked” with fun and enriching activities. Students enjoy snacks, free time, and planned activities oriented to their grade level. Activities may include making crafts, playing games, swimming, watching videos, fishing, outside play, and participating in various on-campus activities.
