At Hutchison, the school day doesn't end with the last bell! Our after school program, Students Participating in Arts, Recreation, and Knowledge (SPARK), comes alive with a variety of offerings. SPARK provides engaging, age-appropriate activities and adventures for girls in grades PK-4 and a quiet study atmosphere for girls in grades 5-8.
SPARK is comprised of three distinct programs:
Summer day camp
These programs continue to evolve and expand, with favorite classes the girls know and love returning each year, along with new activities and events to engage young learners.
Whether you have been a part of the Hutchison community for many years, or are just now beginning your journey, the SPARK program is always available to make your life easier and more enjoyable.
SPARK After-school Care:
As part of Hutchison's SPARK program, after-school care is available for all early childhood, lower school, and middle school girls, until 6:00 pm. For girls in grades PK-4, Holiday Care is also available throughout the school year.
In Hutchison's after-school care, girls in grades PK-4 enjoy snacks, free time, and planned activities oriented to their grade level. Activities may include crafts, games, dramatic play, songs and outside play.
We are also pleased to offer an after-school care program designed specifically for girls in grades 5-8. The HIVE After-School program provides a safe, supervised environment for studying and relaxing after school. This program, operating in the Middle School Commons in Dobbs Center, offers homework help and study techniques, a light snack, and some recreation time for the girls enrolled.
Through the Athena Club, girls in grades 1-6 have the opportunity to enjoy each other's company while getting a headstart on their homework after school on campus in a quiet, structured environment with Hutchison classroom teachers. Girls learn and practice good work habits and organizational skills while having access to individual help from their teachers. Registration is repeated quarterly with participants choosing any 15 days in the quarter to attend or drop in as space allows.
SPARK/HIVE After-School Care is available Monday through Friday, beginning at school dismissal and ending at 6:00 pm. The program runs throughout the school year, beginning on the first day of school.
For older girls in grades 9-12, supervised study is available after school. Girls may take advantage of the campus libraries and resources every day until 6:00 pm.
Throughout the school year, SPARK offers a number of extracurricular classes that girls can sign up for on a first-come, first-served basis. A description of these classes will be sent home with the girls.
SPARK! Summer Camp
SPARK Day Camp:
SPARK Day Camp offers 11 weeks of fun-filled adventures with crafts, games, and activities, all revolving around unique weekly themes such as Horsing Around, Get in the Game, Experiments in the Kitchen, Off to the Races, and more!
Our beautifully-wooded, 52-acre campus provides a secure, ideal camp environment, complete with an on-site pool and a lake! In addition to the many Spark Day Camp activities, camp participants can also sign up for classes available through Hutchison's Center for Excellence.
SPARK Day Camp is not just for girls! We also offer Summer Day Camp for boys who are rising into Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade. The boys camp operates on Hutchison's campus and is separate from the girls camp, although campus facilities and resources are shared.
